The History of Ceriani Fuel in Brockport, PA

Ceriani Fuel, based in Brockport, PA, has a long and rich history rooted in family tradition. The story began in the 1950s, when John Bona of Brockport, established The Real Coal Company. He ran local deep mines and strip mines in the area.

In the early 1960s, John’s daughter, Jean, married Jim Ceriani of Brockport. Jim worked to fuel The Real Coal Company. In 1966, the family built a garage on their Toby Road property. In 1970, Jim, motivated to support his father-in-law’s coal company and the local mining industry, founded Ceriani Fuel & Coal out of this garage and delivered coal to local strip mines. It also filled train cars at the nearby Brockport train station, which transported coal throughout Pennsylvania. Jim and Jean’s two sons, Tom and John, grew up at the garage, learning the trade firsthand.

As the years passed, the family business continued under the leadership of one of John’s sons, Tom Sr. and his wife, Lovey who joined the business taking on customer service.

In 1992, Ceriani Fuel & Coal expanded its services to add gas and diesel fuel pumps at the garage, transforming it into a full-service gas station.

Tom Sr. and Lovey’s son, Tom Jr. grew up at garage, much like his father. As the coal industry experienced a boom from the 1990s into the early 2000s, Ceriani Fuel & Coal grew. In the mid 2010s, while residential energy sources shifted, many homes began using heating oil. In response, Tom Sr. and Tom Jr. shifted the focus from coal to delivery of residential and commercial heating oil, as well as transportation fuel. They’ve since become Ceriani Fuel, LLC.

Tom Jr. and Tom Sr. have worked together to modernize the company, investing in top-of-the-line trucks and equipment. They continue sourcing the best fuel available from local suppliers in Warren and Bradford.

In more recent years, Tom Jr.’s son, Tom III, became the fourth generation to join the family business in the service department. With this new generation stepping in, and a top-of-the-line fleet, the Ceriani family continues to uphold the values that have made their company a trusted name in the region.

From the original coal deliveries in the 1970s to today’s modern fuel services, Ceriani Fuel has always prioritized its customers, ensuring reliable, high-quality fuel products. The Ceriani’s carry on the tradition of trust and excellence, and they are proud to serve the community from the same location where the business was founded.
